A Scenario Planning One-Pager

We use a seven-step approach to Scenario Planning.   We've based our approach on the best thinking from the veterans of the Royal Dutch Shell Oil strategy planning group.  We've used this approach for divisions of a larger organization and for entire organizations.

  1. Identify Trends and Unknowns
  2. Decide on two primary Unknowns
  3. Outline the differentiating critical factors for each of the four resulting 'futures'
  4. Draft page-a-half scenarios for each of the four 'futures'
  5. Plot the current state in terms of the two axes and the desired future state
  6. Create a more detailed fifth scenario (typically about six-pages) for the desired future
  7. Craft a strategy designed to move the organization from the current state to the desired state.

We offer both customized consulting and customizable workshops for Systems Thinking and Scenario Planning.  To see what we mean by those phrases, you can either just look at a web version or download a PDF file for overviews.
