Prior to founding The Commonwealth Practice, I spent 28 years of my career with 3M Company.  I primarily served the company in various Information Technology (IT) roles beginning first as a programmer analyst supporting the company’sMaroisPhoto.jpg (2301 bytes) transportation systems. I then assumed a project lead role for the development of a materials control and freight forwarding system for their international shipments.  The implemented system produced a 400% reduction of shipping errors and extended the use of the facility for another ten years.  From there I moved to a plant location to build and staff a Data Center as well as manage the Shipping Receiving and Warehousing Departments.

After five years at the plant, I accepted a position in the corporate IT Education Department.  It was in this assignment that I developed my passion for leadership development.  I discovered so many cases where good talented people were limited in their ability to contribute primarily because of poor leadership, both their own leadership as well as the positional leadership they reported to.  Our VP shared the same concern.

Over the next six years I poured my heart into developing and delivering learning experiences that engage both the heart and the head as it related to the art of leading.  Accepting my own personal challenge to grow, I went back to school and receive a Master of Arts in Organizational Leadership from Bethel College (St. Paul MN).  Later, I moved to the company’s corporate Leadership Development Center to help people in their transition to new roles of positional leadership.

I am certified to use the Sherrod Miller Core Communications products.  (Don't be deceived by the name.  This communications approach grew out of the domain of marriage counseling and has expanded into the domain of business communication.  It's  the best approach I've come across.)

I have a wonderful wife of more than 30 years.  We have three children, one now married with two children of her own.  I lead a men’s group at our church, play a little golf, and ride a motorcycle when I’m not working.
